Indiana EPA Lead Renovator RRP Initial Course – (Blended)

  • This online class covers six of the eight hours required for lead renovator certification.

  • In order to become a fully certified lead renovator, you are REQUIRED to participate in and complete a two hour classroom hands-on demonstration in person.

EPA’s renovation program applies to all states, tribes and territories where EPA has not specifically provided authorization for that state, tribe or territory to operate the program themselves. The following states are authorized to administer their own RRP programs in lieu of the federal program. Note: If you work in more than one state, you may need both EPA and state certification.

Contractors working in the following states ARE NOT able to take this training:

Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, or in the Bois Forte Tribe.

The Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule establishes requirements for firms and individuals performing renovations, and affects contractors, property managers, and others who disturb painted surfaces. It applies to work in houses, apartments, and child-occupied facilities (such as schools and day-care centers) built before 1978. It includes pre-renovation education requirements as well as training, firm certification, and work practice requirements.

Anyone who is paid to perform work that disturbs paint in housing and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 must be certified. This includes all firms, including sole proprietors.

Those who must comply with the RRP rule include:  Residential rental property owners/managers, General contractors, Special trade contractors including: Painters, Plumbers, Carpenters, Electricians.
